Awards Roundup: Films cast by ICDN members at Golden Globes, Berlinale, British Academy Film Awards, and the Oscars

The ICDN is proud to announce that several films cast by its members achieved nominations and wins at the recent Golden Globes, Berlinale, and BAFTA Awards, with another five films nominated for the upcoming Oscars.

Eight films cast by ICDN members have been nominated for some of the film industry’s most prestigious awards (from top left): Nancy Bishop, Avy Kaufman, Tanja Grunwald, Esther Kling, Anja Dihrberg, Viorica Capdefier, Rebecca van Unen, Juliette Ménager

Golden Globes

The Golden Globe Awards took place on 28th February 2021 and brought wins and nominations for four ICDN members:

BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM (Best Picture – Musical/Comedy [WINNER], Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy [Maria Bakalova], Best Actor – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy [Sacha Baron Cohen] [WINNER])

MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM (Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama [Viola Davis], Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama [Chadwick Boseman] [WINNER])

Casting: Avy Kaufman

ANOTHER ROUND (Best Picture – Foreign Language)

Casting: Tanja Grunwald

UNORTHODOX (Best Television Motion Picture, Best Actress – Television Motion Picture [Shira Haas])

Casting: Esther Kling


Berlinale

At the industry-only digital Berlinale event at the beginning of March 2021, two nominated films cast by ICDN members managed to win one of the prestigious awards:

BABARDEALA CU BUCLUC SAU PORNO BALAMUC (BAD LUCK BANGING OR LOONY PORN) (WINNER – Golden Bear for Best Film)

Casting: Viorica Capdefier

ICH BIN DEIN MENSCH (I’M YOUR MAN) (WINNER – Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance [Maren Eggert])

Casting: Anja Dihrberg


British Academy Film Awards

The EE BAFTAs took place on 10th and 11th April 2021, and amongst the nominations and winners are no less than five films cast by ICDN members:

ANOTHER ROUND (Film not in the English Language [WINNER], Director, Original Screenplay, Leading Actor [Mads Mikkelsen])

QUO VADIS, AIDA? (Film not in the English Language, Director)

MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM (Leading Actor [Chadwick Boseman], Costume Design, Make Up & Hair)

BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM (Supporting Actress [Maria Bakalova])

Casting: Nancy Bishop, Kris Redding

DA 5 BLOODS (Supporting Actor [Clarke Peters])

Casting: Kim Coleman, Juliette Ménager (Location Casting)

We would also like to congratulate Lucy Pardee (ROCKS) (WINNER), Shaheen Baig (CALM WITH HORSES), Alexa L. Fogel (JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH), Julia Kim (MINARI), and Lindsay Graham Ahanonu and Mary Vernieu (PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN) for being nominated in the BAFTA category for casting.

Finally, an extra special thanks to the British Academy of Film and Television for honouring the work of casting directors. It is a thrill for everyone in our profession to see our colleagues being recognized!


The Oscars

The 93rd Academy Awards are set to take place in Los Angeles on 25th April 2021, and, excitedly, five films cast by ICDN members have been nominated in various categories. Unfortunately, there is still no Oscar for Best Casting, but the ICDN remains hopeful that this will change going forward:
